Volunteer Information

Applicant Categories

There are 3 categories of volunteers for Mercy Ministries. You may choose which category best suites how you would like to give of your time by reading all of the information below. The 3 categories are as follows:

Note: Those who would like to be a Home Volunteer must also make a commitment of at least one day or evening per week.

Groups

Groups interested in serving at Mercy Ministries should contact volunteer@mercyministries.com to find out how they can help. All volunteer group projects are pre-arranged tasks; they are supervised by staff at all times.

Minimum Ages

Fourteen is the minimum age for Corporate Headquarters Volunteers. Volunteers under the age of 18 are required to have an adult with them or a waiver signed by a parent/guardian or school official in order to serve at Mercy Ministries.

The minimum age for the Home Volunteer category as well as Interns is 18 years.

Volunteer Activities

Please note that due to legal requirements, privacy policies, and the severity of the issues of our residents, volunteers at Mercy Ministries are very limited in their interaction with the residents of our homes and will NOT be involved in any of the following at any time:

  • Providing counseling or ministry to residents in the Mercy Ministries Home
  • Spending any unsupervised or one-on-one time with the residents in the Mercy Ministries Home
  • Engaging in any of the resident application review process
  • Driving any Mercy Ministries vehicles with or without residents

Activities for Home Volunteers may include any of the following:

  • Various administrative tasks (typing, filing, ordering office supplies, etc.)
  • Answering phones
  • Maintaining the library
  • Tutoring
  • Checking in residents from the mall
  • Wrapping Christmas presents
  • Monitoring snacks for residents on an eating plan
  • Overseeing mail

Activities for Corporate Headquarters Volunteers may include any of the following:

  • Wrapping Christmas presents
  • Preparing donor luncheon meals
  • Assisting with luncheon decor and gift bag assembly
  • Assembling gift baskets for special speakers and guests of Mercy
  • Various administrative tasks at the Corporate Office
  • Thank you notes and calls to donors and friends of Mercy
  • Online research
  • Product inventory
  • Helping our staff in any department: Public Relations, Promotions and Marketing, Development and Fundraising, Intake, Adoptions

Activities for Home Interns may include the following:

NOTE: Interns at the Home will assist with a variety of administrative tasks for the Home Staff. Persons applying for this internship must be able to multi-task and help in any area needed. If the internship is conducted for academic credit, the intern will be assigned specific tasks and will be responsible for all reporting requirements needed for the educational institution. Home Interns should expect to serve at least 1-2 days a week during times when staff can best utilize the extra help. Interns must commit to serve for a period of at least 2-3 months.

  • Various administrative tasks (typing, filing, ordering office supplies, etc.)
  • Answering phones
  • Maintaining the library
  • Tutoring
  • Checking in residents from the mall
  • Wrapping Christmas presents
  • Monitoring snacks for residents on an eating plan
  • Overseeing mail

Activities for Corporate Headquarters Interns will be specific to the type of internship:

NOTE: The Corporate Headquarters Internship provides the opportunity for individuals to gain experience and hands-on training as well as academic credit, if requested. A Corporate Headquarters Intern will personally assist a certain staff member within Mercy Ministries with a variety of tasks depending on the department and duties of that staff member. Applicants may select 2 out of the 5 available departments in which they would prefer to work.

  • Graphic Design Intern
  • Grant Writing Intern
  • Transitional Care Intern
