Teens Say Yes To The Dress to Raise Money for Mercy
February 14th, 2012
Love The Dress is a rising tradition in Franklin, TN. The intent of this organization is to demonstrate the strength of wholesome beauty and modesty in fashion for teenage girls. Love the Dress raised thousands of dollars for Mercy a few weeks back. More than 300 girls flooded into Full Life Assembly of God Church on February 4th as they picked the perfect gently worn prom dress and accessories for upcoming dances. In preparation for this important night, Love The Dress prom shop and swap event hosted dress drives at local high schools and colleges preceding the event. Over 500 dresses were received from these drives as well as from donations. With the help of over 65 volunteers, Love The Dress was a huge success! Over 400 dresses were distributed, which is triple the amount from 2011 when the event first launched.
Love The Dress began as an idea by Teri Black, mother of two daughters, Kelsy and Katie. Her vision of recycling prom dresses and accessories stemmed from her knowledge that most girls do not want to wear the same dress years in a row. She also knows dress shopping can be time consuming, frustrating and very pricey. Teri wants to provide teenage girls and their families an opportunity to receive affordable and wholesome outfits. Teri is also a Mercy Ministries partner and wanted to put all the money toward helping Mercy girls receive hope, freedom and transformation.
We want to thank Teri and all of the Love The Dress volunteers for graciously donating all the proceeds from this event to Mercy! We always appreciate creative fundraising events. If you are ever interested in partnering with Mercy, please contact Heather Robinson at hrobinson@mercyministries.com
