The First Lady of Tennessee Visits Mercy First Lady of Tennessee Crissy Haslam addressing the staff and residents

Nashville Mercy residents and staff were honored this week by a visit from the wife of the Governor of Tennessee, First Lady Crissy Haslam. Mrs. Haslam started her visit with a tour of our corporate offices and home.  She then greeted our staff and residents in the classroom and shared encouraging words of wisdom. During her talk, the First Lady referred to the last words of Jesus to His disciples before He ascended to heaven (Matthew 28:20): “I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” She emphasized that the last words of Jesus were His reassurance that regardless of our circumstances, He will always be with us.

Mrs. Haslam was gracious enough to answer questions from our residents. When asked what her “main duties” were, Mrs. Haslam shared her passion for encouraging children to read and encouraging parents to get involved in their children’s education. She not only answered questions, but also asked the girls questions, including what they had learned at Mercy so far. Many girls answered that they had learned that God loves them unconditionally, that they are never alone, and that God is always for us.

Mercy Ministries’ Founder and President, Nancy Alcorn thoroughly enjoyed hosting the First Lady. Click here to see Nancy’s blog post from March 22, 2012 to hear Nancy’s personal perspective of the visit.

We want to sincerely thank Mrs. Haslam for taking time out of her very busy schedule to experience Mercy Ministries and invest her time in our staff and residents.
