Tamara - 2008 Graduate
I went to Mercy Ministries with the understanding that if it didn't work, if God didn't help me, I would not live to see a day past my 21st year. I was sexually abused growing up, and I planned to end my life on January 18, 2009. A dear friend kept nudging me to look more closely at Mercy Ministries, and as I sat alone in the dark on Christmas Day, carving the word “unwanted” on my body to numb the pain in my soul, I made the decision to apply. I told God that this was my last attempt at change, and if it didn't work, then He would have to let me die.
During my time at Mercy, God did what only He could do. God used the staff to weed out the mess that had taken control of my life and replaced it with a beautiful garden! My life now is something I could have never imagined before Mercy. Having the time to focus on my soul and my relationship with God changed my life forever.
Now I have a wonderful job with amazing coworkers, I volunteer at my church multiple times a week, and I have amazing friends. I also just celebrated my 25th birthday! I am so thankful for Nancy, all the staff and every supporter of Mercy Ministries! Without you, I would not have reached such an incredible milestone in my life!
